Along with more than 30 other communities of faith, First Christian Church of Torrance is a core congregation with Family Promise of the South Bay, whose mission is to move homeless families with children to housing stability.
Before the beginning of each school year, we put together 100s of backpacks filled with school supplies for local children in need. This effort is connected to the ministries of Love INC, which we support throughout the year.
Each year before Christmas, working with area partners, we collect and deliver presents for dozens of local disadvantaged children. For more information about our partners:
Our Prayer Shawl Ministry is currently meeting via Zoom.
As part of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the Pacific SW Region, we support All Peoples Community Center in South Central Los Angeles, and Eastmont Community Center in East LA, and their work with underprivileged youth, continuation high school, day-care, parenting classes, and job training.
This is the emergency relief agency of our larger church body, the Disciples of Christ. Through this ministry, we are present to serve those who fall victim to disaster, both natural and social, in North America and throughout the world. Though we receive a special, over-and-above offering for Week of Compassion each February, donations to Week of Compassion may be made any time throughout the year.
We support the work of the Disciples of Christ throughout North America and the world with Special Day Offerings at Christmas, Easter, Pentecost and Thanksgiving. These over-and-above gifts go to a number of colleges and seminaries, new church starts, mission workers, and the ministries of our Regional Church.
